And they’re off

James and Joe couldn’t have asked for a more perfect start to their amazing adventure!

It was a hectic morning packing up the van, and getting the kayaks onto the roof, but they succeeded in leaving for Falmouth on time.

First on the agenda was an amazing talk to a class of 30 enthusiastic school children at the Maritime Museum. The kids got to look at all the kit, hear about the trip, and ask lots of probing questions, like “how do you go to the toilet?” We all learnt a lot!

After that it was straight to the launch pontoon to set up the boats, get into kit and receive the Maritime Museum’s presentation bear. James & Joe will have to take him all the way round Great Britain with them, and name him on the way. No doubt you’ll be hearing more from him.

Finally it was time to launch!!

Big thanks to the Maritime Museum for all their support and for doing such a great job organising the launch.

The weather was warm, clear sunshine with a light breeze, calm waters, and very little swell – perfect for making a good start. There was quite a crowd with the class of 30, friends and family, local press, and lots more folk besides.

(Pictures of the launch to follow.)

James & Joe will be making the most of the brilliant conditions while it lasts. Which means there will be long paddling days – early starts and late finishes. But as soon as they get the chance they’ll be updating us about what it’s like out on the waters, now they’ve gone paddling.
